“BETWEEN THE WALLS”

The café is designed on the ground level of an apartment block facing the main road at MRC Nagar, Chennai. The spatial framework is such that, the cafe is aligned with an open space in the front to relate with the street pedestrian. The entrance to the café identifies itself as an elongated gateway with a relatively smaller open green court, artistically encasing the café inside. Internally, the café is laid out on open floor space to ideate diversified seating zones from a cozy nook to a vibrant large socializing space. To hold the interior atmosphere cozy yet lively, enclosing walls and ceilings are painted dark with the right ambient lighting, and the furniture in wood with colored cushions. Functions like Kitchen and other services are deliberately enclosed by a well-proportioned solid bright wall against the large open floor space, a part that adds up to the aesthetic expression of the whole.
